The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) value is the normalized ratio of the visible red and near-infrared bands. It reflects the effective radiation absorption of vegetation photosynthesis, as well as the size and health status of crop populations. It is related to leaf area index (LAI), vegetation coverage, development level, biomass, and can reflect crop growth and nutritional information NDVI is currently the most widely used vegetation index.
The working principle of this instrument is as follows: using sunlight as the light source, four photodetectors with special spectral response characteristics are used to detect the incident light of the sun and the reflected light of vegetation in the near-infrared and red light characteristic bands, respectively. The measured radiation intensity of the incident light of the sun and the reflected spectrum of vegetation in the red and near-infrared bands is obtained by calculating the ratio.
